In most of the world’s cultures, breast feeding continues for at least 2 years. The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends that moms breastfeed their children from birth until 2 years and then as long as mutually desired. and did you know The worldwide average age of weaning is 4.2 years! thats right - 4.2 years! on top of that Studies have shown that kids who are breastfed grow up to be more secure and self reliant than their bottle-fed peers. look on you tube - there is a lady breastfeeding her 8 year old! so it really does come down to personal choice. I am a breastfeeding mother. And i am going to be completely honest now and lay it all out on the table. I used to be one of those people that said ' when they walk and talk its just WRONG to still breast feed them'HOWEVER , upon having a baby and breastfeeding ( and doing extensive reasearch) I am thoroughly ashamed of my previous attitude! You see when i was making these uninformed opinions i seemed to be seeing the body as a sexual object. And that is ridiculous!! Women have breast for one reason and one reason only ( although men will debate it!) And that is to nurse babies! The benefits of breastfeeding are not myths. They are proven facts! And breast milk will have nutritional benifits to a 'baby' of any age - I will post some links here for you.. I am not sure how long i will continue breastfeeding for , i am going to let my daughter decide i think.
