To dummy or not to dummy

I thought I had gotten away with never giving my bub a dummy, until recently.
All of a sudden she started to want it (I did offer it to her!), after months of trying and trying. There were some nights I knew it would be the only thing to settle her, but she wouldn't take it! All of a sudden over the last couple of weeks its her new bestie! Damn those dummys. Now I don't know whether to keep offering it or not, as I don't want to get caught in the rut of waking up in the middle of the night to put it back in her mouth. I've done that once for 2 years with my son! What to do?

My little ones had dummies and really just used them as a comforting thing to nod off to sleep the first time, then during the night if they would wake it would be for a feed or to be changed, never for the dummy not being it their mouth.
I know of others who didn't use dummies and the little kids still sucking their thumbs in a few years down the track.

My son hated the dummy and was a terrible sleeper. We tried all (the wrong and right) ways to get him to take it to no avail.

See it as a good thing and use it to help you.

I only had the dummy when I cried. I don't believe it is a good idea 24/7. I reckon you lose out on the 1st words soon - they can hardly talk with rubber in their mouths.

But I do argee that they do help with teething.
